Fluorescent Minerals

Overview Fluorescent Minerals are rocks that give off light when activated by energy in the form of light. Some minerals emit light when they are heated and are called thermoluminescent minerals. Clays were found to possess this property in China thousands of years ago when they fired their clay in ovens. Some rocks emit light from a mechanical means, which are referred to as triboluminescent minerals. Other minerals emit light when charged from UV or black light, which is what this white paper will focus on.
