MPEG-Layer 3 Bitstream Syntax and Decoding
Overview This document describes the bitstream syntax of the ISO/MPEG Layer3 bitstream. It covers all features specified for Layer3 in ISO/IEC 11172-3 (MPEG1 audio). This standard defines the bitstream for audio signals with sampling frequencies of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz. In addition, low sampling frequency (LSF) enhancement, which is specified in ISO/IEC 13818-3.2 (MPEG2 audio), is included. This allows to use sampling frequencies of 16 kHz, 22.05 kHz and 24 kHz. Furthermore, even lower frequencies then those specified by ISO/IEC 13818-3.2 are included through to enhanced syntax, called MPEG2.5. This is a syntax extension of the MPEG Layer3 bitstream syntax to meet the requirements for very low bitrates (8 kHz, 11,025 kHz and 12 kHz) but is not standardized by ISO/IEC.

Converting MP3 Software to Hardware
MP3 encoding is normally implemented in software, but in the search for higher performance and lower cost encoders, moving to hardware is increasingly attractive. Taking advantage of the boost to...
The (Somewhat) Confusing World of DVD Media
Consumers shopping for a new DVD recorder should first ask themselves two questions. First, what level of compatibility are you looking for? Second, what DVD recordable format would best suit...
Advanced MPEG-2 Encoding
This white paper introduces the advanced MPEG-2 encoding techniques featured on the standard definition DiviCom™ MV50 encoder from Harmonic. This sixth-generation encoder supersedes the market-leading MV45 encoder, adding extra processing power,...
Zen Research White Paper
Currently, conventional CD and DVD-ROM disc drives use a single highly concentrated laser beam to read the digital signal that is encoded on a single track of an optical disc....
Digital Audio Decoders for Optimized Sound Quality
Digital Audio decoders based on ARM® technology deliver better sound quality than most 16-bit digital signal processors (DSPs) because ARM decoders utilize a 32-bit data path and register set. The 32-bit...
