PKI White Papers

Wireless PKI: Fundamentals

Overview To introduce wireless PKI without a detailed discussion of technology.

Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) has been celebrated as the security technology for the needs of the new Information Society. PKI offers strong authentication and encryption mechanisms and facilitates the secure exchange of sensitive messages in public information networks.

PKI functions permit detection of messages that have been tampered with or altered during transmission. Furthermore, PKI-enabled digital commitments are legally binding and cannot be falsely denied later. This paper describes the basic elements of a PKI and outlines some characteristics of PKI in wireless environments.
