Integrated Applications: Business Need and the Challenge
Overview
An enterprise's success is directly related to the speed with which it can respond to changes in its business environment and create value for its chosen marketspace. The current business challenges include the development of closer business partnerships, improvement in supplier
interactions, customer support and service and streamlining of processes
to achieve efficiency objectives. Integration positions a company to
best exploit these opportunities. An ideal integration environment exposes the functionality of otherwise incompatible applications allowing them to share data, manages the transfer of data and objects, orchestrating the application interaction and enforcing business rules that govern those interactions. The strategic utilization of information technology is enabling electronic business and new business models through improvements in connectivity and information processing
capabilities. IT-enabled customer relationship management, supply chain
management, electronic commerce and enterprise integration lead to
improvements in customer retention, better procurement and logistics,
online presentation of offerings and transaction handling as well as internal access to operational information.
In this paper we outline the business need for integration and some of the key challenges in integrating enterprise applications.
