HTS Conductor and Magnet Technology in Magnetic and Inertial Fusion Experiments

Overview High temperature superconductors have a high promise for improving the cost/performance of magnetic and inertial fusion. The ability to operate without Joule heating at higher temperatures dramatically lowers the cost of cryogenic refrigeration and also simplifies current leads and thermal isolation. Available high temperature superconducting tapes of BSSCO-2212 and -2223 have excellent properties at low temperatures, surpassing Nb3Sn at very high fields.
