PATROL® 7 Security Implementation: Securing the Data in Your PATROL - Managed Environment

Overview The term security covers a wide territory, even in the restricted domain of computer networks. Conventional logon passwords, for example, address the need for access security--ensuring that access to computing resources is only given to legitimate users. Just as access security protects access to computing resources, communications security protects information that is transmitted over a communications channel. Communications security protects such information only in the context of a transaction between communicating parties. Once that information is received, it takes on a life outside the transaction (for instance, by being indefinitely stored on disk), where it must be protected by other forms of security (access security).
