Viruses Hiding in RTF Files
Overview There have been reports in the media, with press releases from several major players in the Anti-Virus field, concerning the potential for problems in detecting viruses in files with the RTF extension. This started with a press release from Symantec followed by a response from Command, claiming that contrary to Symantec's claim, not all anti-virus products are susceptible to this problem. According to Symantec's press release, it states that anti-virus scanners may not detect viruses inside of files with an RTF extension due to the default configuration. In response, Command pointed out that their product is not shipped in this fashion, and that their users are protected by the default configuration.
