Win32.MyParty.A // Win32/MyParty.Worm // W32.Myparty@mm // W32/Myparty@MM (CAI)

Overview Date: January 28, 2002

Name: Win32.MyParty.A

Alias: Win32/MyParty.Worm, W32.Myparty@mm, W32/Myparty@MM

Category: Win32

Type: Worm

Destructiveness: Low

CHARACTERISTICS: Many reports of this mass-mailing worm spreading via e-mail were received late on 27 January 2002.ÊOur analysis of the worm suggests that aside from spreading via e-mail, Win32.MyParty.A has no other damaging functions.

The worm operates differently on Windows 9x-based and NT-based operating systems, and it is designed to leave machines with Russian keyboard support unaffected. Its activity depends on the date, name, and extension of the file from which it is running.

Generally, Win32.MyParty will initially be detected in the user's e-mail in-box. The virus then dupes unwitting recipients into running the executable attachment. The virus' messages all have the same Subject: line -
Ê'new photos from my party!'
