Failover vs Fault Tolerance: Data Protection and Assured Availability in a Windows Environment

Overview Once regarded as a risky platform, Microsoft® Windows® environments are becoming the platform of choice for today's mission-critical applications. Windows is now seen as a cost-effective, flexible, and easier-to-manage alternative to UNIX or other similar technologies. Today, IT professionals trust Windows to run applications that are central to the operation of their company, including e-mail, manufacturing process control, call center management, e-commerce, and on-line trading.

However, without a reliable high-availability solution in place, companies run the risk of costly downtime. Downtime and other system failures can lead to lost sales, poor customer service, decreased customer loyalty, reduced productivity, missed deadlines, and compromised projects. These losses are further compounded by data lost during failure.
