Teaching and Learning - Towards the Learning Society
Overview
This White Paper takes the view that in modern Europe the three essential
requirements of social integration, the enhancement of employability and personal fulfilment, are not incompatible. They should not be brought into conflict, but
should on the contrary be closely linked. Europe's assets in the area of science,
the depth of its culture, the capacity of its business, industry and institutions should
enable it both to pass on its fundamental values and prepare for employment. This
presupposes that European society stays tuned to the underlying trends at work
within it.
On this basis, the White Paper considers in turn:
– the importance of education and training to Europe in the current context of
technological and economic change; and
– the guidelines for action in the pursuit of objectives to build up high-quality education and training.
