Content Management White Papers

The XML Publishing Challenge

Overview XML (eXtensible Markup Language) is being widely embraced in content management and document solutions because it uses an open standard that effectively separates "style" issues--how the data is presented-- from the data itself. In this way, it allows the same content to be easily and effectively utilized and re-purposed in a variety of formats and platforms-such as print, web site, mobile phone, database and so forth.

As the XML industry experiences an exploding growth and embraces XML as a solution for Internet publishing and content management, the process of efficiently creating XML data is often tedious, costly and complex. Complicating XML document creation is the often huge amounts of legacy documents in paper or electronic formats such as Word or PDF that are frequently part of a comprehensive enterprise solution to document management. Unlike simple Word or HTML, graphic rendering like PDF or scanned documents; realizing the power and benefits of XML requires a cumbersome coding or tagging process that can usually only be accomplished by skilled workers trained in XML.
