Integrated Imaging: More than just Microfilm
Overview
The purpose of this guide is to help
inform you about the availability and
importance of value-added programs which support your organization’s need to protect and preserve data and document images for many years to come. And do so in a manner that is cost effective, secure and environmentally responsible.
Now, and in the future, microfilm will continue to serve
as the foundation for document imaging systems for the following reasons:
• As a long-term storage medium, documents filmed 70 years ago are retrievable and readable today.
• Microfilm is technology independent. Information stored on microfilm is shielded from possible changes in proprietary technology.
• Microfilm provides compact, efficient storage at a very low cost per image. The medium’s qualities make it the best choice for long-term, off-line information storage.
• Microfilm is very inexpensive to duplicate. Large quantities of document information quickly and conveniently can be distributed to those who need to access it.
• Microfilm is readily converted to electronic data for
networked distribution and digital storage. An example of interoperability at its finest!
