A Guide to Cross-Border Privacy Impact Assessments

Overview This guide introduces a cross-border privacy impact assessment model that an organization can use in addressing cross-border privacy operations, systems and regulatory issues. The privacy impact assessment proposes principles and questions for assessing the impact of national and cross-border collection, use and disclosure of personally identifiable information that may be subject to privacy regulation. Although there is no global definition of which private or personal data may be subject to regulation, the guide uses use "personally identifiable information" as the term to encompass all of the private data, personal data and other information relating to an identified or identifiable individual that may be relevant to the organization. The principles offered in this guide are a summation by the author of national and international privacy principles.
