Quality of Service Interworking: Ethernet and ATM Solutions
Overview The ability of a network to define and support differentiated service offerings is termed Quality of Service (QoS). Networking technologies today offer a broad range of QoS capabilities, varying in both complexity and robustness. QoS has become a major issue on the Internet as well as in enterprise networks, because voice and video are increasingly traveling over IP-based data networks that were not originally designed for continuous speech or viewing. This paper will describe different Quality of Service technologies available today. It will explore the strengths and limitations of each technology, and offer examples of how each can support particular types of application traffic. Lastly, this paper will provide configuration guidelines for Marconi ES and ESR switch products.
