Overview The Compaq StorageWorks Enterprise Backup Solution (EBS) is an integration of backup and restore application software and industry-standard hardware providing a complete enterprise-class solution. Compaq has partnered with Computer Associates (CA) to provide a solution that supports the backup and restore of homogeneous operating systems using CA ARCserve 2000 for Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or ARCserveIT for Novell NetWare software. This white paper explains how the EBS provides data backup and restore using ARCserve 2000 and ARCserveIT with an automated tape library and Fibre Channel technology. The EBS includes Compaq ProLiant™ and multi-vendor servers sharing Compaq digital linear tape (DLT) and Advanced Intelligent Tape (AIT) libraries interconnected through Compaq StorageWorks™ Fibre Channel storage hubs, Fibre Channel switches, Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) switches, and Fibre Channel tape controllers. The servers can be running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, Microsoft Windows 2000, or Novell NetWare.
