FSP 3000 and FSP 500 in Metro Optical Networks

Overview After the de-regulation of the telecommunications markets many new network operators built up their own transport networks. Most of them started with ring-based long-haul backbones that connect their Points of Presence (PoP) in major cities either regionally, nationally, or inter-nationally. These network operators now extend their networks from the backbone into the metropolitan areas in order to generate increased revenues. Metro networks enable them to directly access enterprises via fiber, xDSL or WLL infrastructures and to offer new services like Telehousing or Storage Area Networking.

A typical metro networking scenario in the deregulated telco market where a network operator plans to extend its activities from the backbone towards the access.
