Securing the Collaborative Enterprise
Overview
In addition to the picture identification you carry, you also have a virtual identity. Credit cards, driver licenses, and ATM cards have a magnetic strip with a digital identification number. When this number is captured by a system, it can be matched with a unique password to grant access. Each time you make a secure transaction using internet technology, the same principles apply.
In fact, you probably use digital certificates whenever you access secure sites on the internet. When you run PeopleSoft 8 collaborative applications and pure internet architecture, a number of advanced security tools and technologies come into play, including Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
