Integrated Document Management: an Introduction to the Advantages of an Integrated Document Management System
Overview Virtually all businesses file or store knowledge in the form of documents. These documents may be in the form of paper documents, computer generated information from business applications, documents generated on PCs, EDI, faxes or e-mail. The information contained in these documents is difficult to find and retrieve and therefore largely unused. The result is that businesses and their employees cannot easily find, deliver, assemble, or otherwise use documents to support their business processes. Document Management solves many of the traditional problems associated with the timely delivery of documents to the user. Documents are typically categorized by name or type and have keywords to help the user quickly find and retrieve the required documents. Documents can also be stored in folders (which are typically collections of related documents such as invoices, pick tickets and delivery documents).
