Why Network-Based Call Centers? the Reasons and Business Case Behind a Changing Industry

Overview A new generation of call center technology has led to a new way for businesses to deploy the latest in multi-channel, multimedia call centers. This all-IP technology, based on open computing platforms, makes renting call centers as a service a compelling alternative to deploying of premise-based equipment. Earlier generations of “hosted” call centers are remembered as “Centrex ACD”—offered by a local telephone company, with limited feature sets, and not much hope for competing with the bells and whistles of premise-based systems. This paper explains why this new generation of technology, for the first time, makes the hosted call center a reality. It also provides a clear business justification for service providers wishing to cash in on this exciting new business opportunity.
