Overview The information here provides in-depth information regarding "smurf" and "fraggle" attacks, with a focus on Cisco routers and how to reduce the effects of the attack. Some information is general and not related to an organization's particular vendor of choice; however, it is written with a Cisco router focus. No confirmation has been made to the effects on other vendors' equipment; however, others have provided me with information for various vendors, which is provided in the document. See the "Acknowledgements" section below for the sources and contact information. I am happy to accept information from other colleagues or other vendors who are willing to provide information about other vendors' products in relation to this topic. This paper is always being updated as I receive more information about attacks and work with ways to minimize impact.
