Big Blast in Mobile Computing Growth Forecast
Overview There are growth sectors, and then there is the mobile computing sector -- where nuclear-strength growth is expected within the next few years. Mobility-focused applications and consumer-based data services and devices will drive the North American wireless market to grow to 137.5 million subscribers in 2005 from 7.3 million subscribers in 2000. The growth will be driven by the rollout of packet data networks, increased overall use of wireless devices to receive messages and e-mail, availability of inexpensive wireless data devices, and development of company-specific applications that will improve the productivity of the mobile worker.
