An Integrated Modelling Methodology for the Simulation of the Life Cycle of Satellite Constellations

Overview Several new systems have been proposed in recent years for the provision of global telecommunication services based on different non-geostationary satellite constellations. In this networking scenario, the failures possibly present in the satellites of the constellation are no more permanently associated to a specific geographical region of coverage on ground, as happens in the common ground networks for mobile services, but, due to the orbital motion of the satellites, affect all the different areas serviced during specific time frames. In other words, the failure migrates through different geographical locations according to the orbital path followed by the failed satellite.
