Linchpin Technologies and Methodologies for Change

Overview The continual progress in silicon process technology has provided a strong and persistent driver of opportunity for the electronics marketplace — only now the progress steps have gotten bigger. Today the combination of increased design com-plexity, first and derivative design cycle reductions, design reuse, and application convergence represents a fundamental and unprecedented dis-continuity in electronics design. This discontinuity is only addressed through the mainstream change in design methodology to system-on-a-chip based design. This change is often a multi-step process for companies based upon where they are currently in the course of design methodology evolution. In order to make this change, companies must make the cumulative adoption of the linchpin technologies, and go through the methodology transitions in order to establish the organizational and technological foundations for system-chip design. Once completed, the significant rewards of the latest process technologies can be realized.
