Biometrics White Papers

Biometrics and the Future of Money

Overview Biometrics have finally arrived as a viable identification technology for the mass market. Over the past few years, the price of the computers and chip technology has decreased dramatically. This along with the impressive developments in research and development by biometric technology vendors has brought us to the point where biometric systems are a cost effective solution for a myriad of identification applications. There is a need for a legal framework that addresses the use and dissemination of biometric technology. However, this legal framework should not be so restrictive as to curtail the development, research and implementation of biometrics. This paper addresses some of the legal and regulatory issues unique to biometric technology. It is intended to serve as a general overview and a starting point for further discussion.
