UNIX White Papers

Using the UNIX Shell

Overview These notes describe the process of using a command-line shell interface to UNIX. If somebody is using an X-window terminal or the console of a UNIX workstation, he must first establish the X-window session and then open a "shell" or "command" window (one is often opened automatically). These notes will apply to what happens within that shell window.
