The Virtual World Data Server (VWDS) Client for Large Scientific Datasets
Overview The VWDS is designed to provide data storage for multiple, simultaneous high-performance clients running different multimedia and virtual world applications. It serves the data on demand over the network with a sufficient data transfer rate to enable users to experience realistic movement in the virtual worlds they are navigating. It does so by providing a guaranteed real-time delivery rate of continuous data satisfying a given delay bound. The probability of exceeding the delay bound is on the order of 10-6. The VWDS opens a session with a client only if it can deliver data at the rate that the client is requesting.
