Thin-Client Computing for the Government Sector
Overview The advent of the personal computer sparked a revolution in the way people work. Its relatively simple interface encouraged widespread deployment of PCs for use with shared applications, giving birth to client/server computing. But the client/server model quickly became more complex and expensive than first imagined. This created the need for new, simpler devices to deliver the same flexibility, user-friendly applications, and productivity, but at lower cost of service, support, and upgrades. Now PCs have been joined by a new class of desktop client devices that simplifies computing, while also reducing operating and support costs and improving security. These new devices—thin clients—support the range of applications and platforms that government relies on today, as well as the need for security, for simplified deployment and support, and for lowering the costs of a networked environment.
