IEEE1394 — New Interface for the Digital Network Age
Overview The IEEE 1394 standard defines a serial interface ideal for the digital age. This inexpensive, easy-to-use and high-speed bus easily handles multimedia bandwidth requirements and provides a universal interface for a variety of devices. By allowing seamless data exchange between devices such as workstations, personal computers and digital televisions, VCRs, camcorders and set-top boxes, it enables a new generation of computers and consumer electronic devices to operate in a common environment. Industry analysts predict a surge in IEEE 1394 product shipments and expect the market to grow from less than 2 million devices in 1997 to more than 460 million by 2011.
