Precision Power Centers and Nonlinear Loads

Overview Harmonic currents can cause a number of problems including high neutral currents, voltage distortion, overheating in transformers and other components, and reduction of system power factor. The Liebert Precision Power Center, introduced in 1979 to isolate the critical load and minimize the problems of distributing power to computer systems, also plays a key role in managing harmonic currents. The Precision Power Center is designed for use with nonlinear loads. Its features include neutral wiring rated at 1.73 times full load current, a conservatively rated delta-wye transformer, an optional K-20 transformer for severe nonlinear loads, an optional load distortion filter, an optional phase-shifted multiple output transformer to cancel non-triplen harmonics, temperature sensors in each of the transformer coils to guard against overloads, and true-RMS metering for accurate measurements of nonlinear loads.
