High Frequency Compensation Techniques

Overview The transmission of data signals is directly subject to constraints imposed on it by the transmission medium. In a structured cabling system, the transmission medium is Unshielded Twisted-Pair (UTP) cable and RJ45 connecting hardware, characterized by a 100-ohm impedance. Data transmission is therefore subject to the same transmission line constraints — impedance, capacitance and inductance. The latter two have a significantly greater impact at high frequencies. This white paper addresses how structured cabling system components can offset the effect of these latter two properties on data transmission.
