High Speed and Robust Event Correlation

Overview We describe InCharge, a system developed by SMARTS for real-time isolation and handling of networked system problems. InCharge employs a novel coding approach that correctly identifies problems when faulty objects appear healthy, performs 2-4 orders of magnitude faster than competing correlators, accurately correlates events in the presence of lost or false alarms, automatically adapts to changes in the networked system topology, and scales to arbitrarily large and complex networks. This paper describes InCharge and illustrates its application to managing a distributed database application on a complex enterprise network.
