High-Availability Power Systems, Part I: UPS Internal Topology

Overview "High-Availability” power systems require four elements: Reliability, Functionality, Maintainability, and Fault Tolerance. This paper examines different approaches to UPS internal topology and explains how each affects these four elements. Bad Things Happen to Good Power Utility power is generally very good. Utility companies do an excellent job of providing reliable AC power to virtually every part of the country. Unfortunately, we can’t predict when disturbances caused by electrical storms, equipment failures and accidents may occur.
