Choosing a Hard Disk Drive for Embedded Applications

Overview Embedded computer applications such as networking, automation, telecommunications, gaming and POS (Point-of-Sale) systems place demanding requirements on their mass storage systems for response time, size, ruggedness and availability. For applications that require reliability and availability of data upwards of 100Mbytes, hard disk drives (HDDs) are the most suitable choice of media. Among HDDs, however, there are a number of factors that come into play when deciding which hard disk solution best serves the application. The most important issue to consider when selecting a hard disk drive for an application is how the HDD will be used.
