Using SoftStax in Bridging and Routing Applications

Overview Historically, single purpose bridging and routing equipment was hardware-centric. This equipment needed at most a microcontroller and more typically, was built using network interface hardware with some kind of ASIC to control the bridging or routing functions. Protocols like RMON and SNMP, which enable remote monitoring and configuration of network intermediate node equipment, allow the system administrator to configure and diagnose this equipment from a remote administrative console or workstation.
