Cross-certification and PKI Policy Networking

Overview This paper will explain the two methods used by Entrust/PKI to extend trust between Certification Authorities (CAs): peer-to-peer cross-certification and hierarchical cross-certification. The benefits of each method will be described and example architectures of each method will be provided. The paper will also explain PKI policy networking, which provides a way to limit the trust relationship between CAs to best suit an organization’ s needs.
