Internet Content Adaptation Protocol: Pending Protocol Promises ISP Revenue Opportunities

Overview ISPs deploy web caches to distribute content to the network edge, improving the customer experience and reducing backbone network traffic. The Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (iCAP) hopes to leverage these edge devices as a foundation for realizing new ISP revenue opportunities: value-added services that tweak web content to, eliminate viruses, fit PDA and cellphone screens, insert targeted ads and speak the user's local language.
