Overview This paper presents a brief overview of this evolving network protocol. Over the past few years, ATM has changed from a concept to a reality with products and services available in today's market. However, ATM specifications are still being written to ensure that ATM properly integrates the many existing network technologies at several levels - Frame Relay, Ethernet and TCP/IP for example. While several types of equipment, services and applications are available and in use today, the telecommunications industry (LAN/WAN/Telephony) continues to converge on ATM.
