Making the Business Case for a Full-Service Directory
Overview Directories have quickly established a successful track record for reducing the total cost of IT ownership by streamlining network administration and reducing staffing needs. In a survey of organizations using Novell Directory Services, IDC found gains of 20% to 30% in IT staff operational efficiencies and an average one-third reduction in the IT staff needed to manage servers, desktops, and applications. Smaller organizations benefited equally from using NDS as larger ones. Companies with remote servers and a centralized IT staff achieved the largest gains, especially those using Windows NT application servers and NetWare file and print servers. Users also benefited from NDS through faster access to information, fewer passwords to remember, less time spent on help desk matters, and reduced system downtime.
