Viruses and Antiviral Software
Overview Computer viruses are one of the most common threats in networks today. However, the threat can be virtually eliminated through the application of antiviral technology and procedures. The technology currently available has evolved in such a way as to overcome many of the problems that existed with earlier generations of antivirus software (keeping signature databases current, for example). By planning its antivirus architecture carefully, and by obtaining and maintaining appropriate antiviral software, a company can ensure that loss of productivity and liability incurred from virus contamination are kept to a minimum. The use of appropriate antiviral technology is a generally accepted best practice among security professionals. Failure to make appropriate use of the technology places networks running Microsoft and Apple Computer operating systems in jeopardy.
