Systems Integration White Papers
Electrical CAD Tools to PDM Integrations-Functional Requirements Specification
Overview This white paper will provide the basis for an on-going discussion between customers, PDM Vendors and providers of electrical point tools regarding requirements for the integration of PDM and ECAD environments. The number one concern here is the customer, i.e. the design engineer who will be "pushing the mouse". His primary concern is and always will be ease of use, from both a conceptual and operational viewpoint. Improvements to data structures, features, and downstream processes can only be hinted at, let alone addressed, if the customer does not adopt and use an integrated PDM/ECAD solution. The required features of an integrated environment that will make these systems extremely useful for managing work in progress, enabling concurrent engineering, providing a common system for change control, legal vaulting, and archiving of completed projects, will be catalogued and listed in this paper. This paper will also be used to place a stake in the ground, and become the platform from which the IPDM users group may dialogue with each other, and also use as a reference when dealing with different PDM vendors to establish requirements for Electrical CAD integrations.
