Protecting the String Between the Dixie Cups— the Reality of VPNs

Overview If you have a personal firewall software product like Zone Labs’ ZoneAlarm™ or ZoneAlarm™ Pro installed on your PC, and your network is also protected by a hardware firewall device, why do you need a VPN? Firewalls manage the Internet traffic to and from the devices on each end of the communications path to ensure that only specified applications on the computers (users) access the public network. Remember those Dixie® cup and string telephones that you played with as a child? The firewall regulates whether a Dixie cup can use the string (the Internet).
