High Availability and Scalability in the Network Core
Overview The rapid adoption of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet to the desktop, the deployment of new, high-bandwidth applications, and the convergence of voice, video, and data infrastructures are driving the demand for increased network capacity in the core of today's enterprise local area networks (LANs). This increased need for capacity, together with an unprecedented business dependence upon the LAN, is having an impact on the way the cores of these networks are being constructed. In order to address the capacity and availability demands of a next-generation LAN core, 3Com has developed its MultiPoint Link Aggregation (MPLA) technology. MPLA is a high-bandwidth, extremely fault-tolerant construct that offers increased scalability, reduced complexity, and significant price advantages over alternative technologies.
