Overview A new generation of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) equipment, called intelligent ATM access products, helps make cost-effective access and deployment of valuable ATM wide area networks a reality. Intelligent ATM access products let network managers tap ATM services from LAN backbones without disrupting users' daily operations or requiring costly upgrades to existing equipment and applications. These products integrate legacy traffic from multiple data, video, and voice networks, convert the traffic to ATM, then network the traffic over the wide area using cost-effective, standards-based ATM public or private networks.
