Overview As background, you should understand that the TIA/EIA 568A networking standard is going through a major revision. First of all, the specification is well over four years old. Given the speed of change in LAN network systems, that makes the standard very old. Currently, a major revision of the standard is out for ballot. When approved, it will issue as TIA/EIA 568B and will define many new test criteria as well as enhanced Category 5 (Category 5e) performance requirements for components and installations.
